"My goal here is to position the Dynamic Intelligence Theory as a rigorous, testable science build on a wealth of solid scientific insights, while at the same time providing the foundation for the paradigm shift humanity needs. The core of the theory is solid biology and neuroscience, the implications extend far beyond any single discipline.. This includes its application to systems in which the presence of conscious and deliberative minds, individually and in social groups, permits the creation of supplementary regulatory mechanisms aimed at achieving balanced and thus survivable life states but more prone to failure than the fully automated mechanisms."

LIFE AND NOT-LIFE

“Evolution is just a special case of the more general law of survival of the stable" Richard Dawkins
What life differentiates from “not life” is its capacity for regulation of change processes. The “stable” in the quote from Richard Dawkins can thus be understood as “homeostasis”. Life is maintaining homeostasis within the organism (from membrane enclosed unicellular lifeforms up to every subsequent complexity level of multi-cellular entities including sapiens) and within the biosphere over time. The quality of homeostasis rests in maintaining/regulating a substantially different environment within the borders of the organism compared to the environment outside its borders. Homeostasis is life’s way of dealing with change: it literally sets limits to change and at the same time creates and manages new forms of change.
In popular terms homeostasis is often described as a concept similar to equilibrium or balance. But this misses the point totally. Equilibrium as such is not wanted at all when dealing with life. It indicates a total lack of thermal or electric difference and therefor signifies death. Pure balance also indicates most of all “stagnation” and is equally unwanted in life situations. The traditional, schoolbook kind of defining homeostasis refers to the state of steady internal, physical, and chemical conditions maintained by living systems. The disadvantage of this description is that has a static flavor with its emphasis on “steady conditions”. In the real-world steady conditions simply do not exist. Conditions always change/fluctuate. And most importantly for living systems this requires constant innovation: continuous adaptations and adjustments to cope with the changing environments. In search for better wordings a more precise working definition is needed to capture the real essence of the concept and for this the line of reasoning of Antonio and Hannah Damasio is taken as a starting point:
Homeostasis is the constant process by which living systems actively pursue both survival and a state of well-being
by deploying a wide range of mechanisms that monitor and manage the changing physical, chemical, biological and social conditions
and realize a dynamic internal and external equilibrium within certain pre-set limits.
